Jean-Yves Le Drian secures majority in Breton election and drops former coalition partners Les Verts and Union Démocratique Bretonne from government.

The final results of the 2010 Breton election, declared on 21 March, keep Jean-Yves Le Drian as President of Brittany with just 50.27% of the vote.

The election to Brittany's devolved regional council, Région Bretagne, gave 52 seats to Mr Le Drian's left-wing coalition list formed by Parti Socialiste, Parti Communiste, and Bretagne Écologie.

In the lowest ever result for the conservatives in Brittany, Majorité Presidentielle, the centre-right coalition formed by Union pour un Mouvement Populaire and Christian Democrats won only 20 seats with a 32.36% of the vote.

Europe Écologie Bretagne, a list of former government coalition partners between 2004 to 2010, the ecologist party Les Verts and regionalists Union Démocratique Bretonne, got 11 seats with a 17.37% of the vote.

After securing his 52-seat majority with the coalition of Parti Socialiste, Parti Communiste, and Bretagne Écologie, Mr. Le Drian announced he would no longer need his former 2004-2010 coalition parters Les Verts and Union Démocratique Bretonne to form a new government.
