Taoiseach Brian Cowen met with Welsh First Minister Rhodri Morgan in Cardiff on 24th May 2008 to discuss Irish-Welsh relations, with an emphasis placed on the illegal drugs trade.
The two leaders held weekend talks on Irish-Welsh relations and agreed a pack of proposals focused on co-operation between Ireland and Great Britain on the fight against drugs.
Proposals aimed at preventing the flow of illegal drugs between Ireland and Great Britain are to be discussed at a meeting of the British-Irish Council which will be held in Scotland in September 2008.
This was the first time Brian Cowen had met with the Welsh First Minister Rhodri Morgan since the former was elected Taoiseach, following the resignation of Bertie Ahern on 6th May 2008.
After the meeting, the two leaders attended the Heineken Rugby Cup Final between Munster and Toulouse at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium.
